Let’s be honest — the music industry is one of the most cut-throat, competitive, everybody-wants-to-be-a-star kind of places. Not many people make it, but most people are freaking talented. That said, music has always been my home. Picture little Jennie, three years old, sitting on the piano bench pretending to play my dad’s harmonica while he ripped it on the piano. That was me, always surrounded by music. My dad is the most talented pianist I know, and my momma can sing her socks off (she’ll never admit it in public). From a very young age, I knew music was going to be my life.
I would go to sleep dreaming about being on stage, singing my songs. I wrote my first real song in fifth grade called “Cheater” — and somehow, at the ripe age of 8, I was able to put adult concepts into lyrics! From that moment on, songwriting became my way to process every good, bad, and in-between day. Music became my voice, my therapy, and my passion all at once.
When it came time to step fully into my music career, I chose the stage name Jaycee, which comes from my maiden name initials. It felt important to honor where I came from and the musical love my parents instilled in me while creating a name that represents the artist I am today.
Today, I’m proud to say that I’m living that dream. I’ve released my debut EP, Love Is a Liar, and singles like “Handle You” and “Better Than You,” each one written from the heart and rooted in stories of healing, empowerment, and resilience. I’ve partnered with an incredible management team that believes in my vision, and I’m so excited to share my music with the world — while continuing to honor the other parts of me that keep me grounded.
I’m so grateful for this journey, for everyone who has supported me over the years, and for every moment that has led me to where I am today. Music is still my heartbeat, but my life is a tapestry of creativity, spirituality, motherhood, and connection — and I can’t wait to share it all with you.
